Bajada de Pared in Padel
What it is
The bajada de pared (wall descent) is an attacking shot played after a lob hits the back glass and rebounds toward you.
Instead of defending, you step in and hit the ball aggressively, usually downward, to take control of the point.
In simple terms:
Lob hits the back glass
Ball rebounds
You step forward and attack
When to use it
Use the bajada de pared when you have a chance to attack, not just anytime the ball comes off the wall.
Best moments:
The lob is short or medium depth
The rebound sits up comfortably
Opponents are close to the net
You can hit from above net height
Avoid forcing it when:
The ball stays low
You’re off-balance
The ball finishes behind you
In those cases, play safe (often a lob).
Who should use it
Beginner
Use it selectively
Focus on clean contact and control
Prioritize consistency over power
Intermediate
Start aiming with direction
Mix speed and placement
Learn when NOT to attack
Advanced
Use disguise and variation
Read opponents’ positioning
Coordinate decisions with your partner
Step-by-step execution
1. Track the lob early
Move quickly toward the back wall
Adjust your steps based on the bounce
2. Position correctly
Don’t let the ball drop behind you
Stay slightly sideways (not fully turned to the glass)
3. Wait for the right height
Ideally contact at the peak of the rebound
If it’s too low, don’t force the attack
4. Step forward into the shot
Transfer weight forward
Keep balance and control
5. Hit down with control
Aim at space, feet, or middle
Not every ball needs full power
6. Recover immediately
Move forward after contact
Expect the next ball
Common mistakes
1. Letting the ball get behind you
Fix: adjust your feet early and stay behind the bounce.
2. Turning your back to the wall
Fix: approach sideways so you can hit naturally.
3. Taking the ball too low
Fix: wait for the peak when possible.
4. Overhitting everything
Fix: mix speeds; play percentages.
5. No communication with your partner
Fix: listen for cues (especially when under pressure).
